History: Shadow Link's creation is unknown, but it is often believed that he was created from Links negative and dark thoughts, and given life by the dark lord Ganondorf. As Link is traversing through the Water Temple, he comes upon a surreal room matted with water, a skyline, and a small tree in the middle. Link's shadow suddenly leaves the floor without him noticing and hides behind the tree, causing Link to lose his reflection in the water as well. After Link has no success opening the door on the other side of the room, he turns around and is ambushed by a dark version of himself.
The Shadow mimiced absolutely everything that Link did. Which made it incredibly hard for Link to hurt the Shadow, as the Shadow blocked everything he tried. Eventually Link resorted to the use of magic to hurt his foe. He used Din's Fire a few times to harm the Shadow. The Shadow appeared as a black, shimmering version of Link with glowing red eyes. As he sustained more damage, he began to appear darker, and his red eyes became more apparent. After sustaining too much damage, Shadow Link retreated, sinking into the floor, and with him, the tree dissapeared. This was his first appearance.
Shadow Link also appeared to attempt to kill the Link several times when Vaati was assaulting Hyrule, and Link was in possession of the Four Sword. Shadow Link was also defeated, but not before he destroyed the Dark Mirror, along with Vaati, as revenge for the betrayal Vaati had commited.
Shadow Link also appeared in a vision given to Link by Lanaryu. Shadow Link took the place of the Dark Interlopers, a group of evil spellcasters that attempted to gain control of the Sacred Realm during the Hyrulean Civil War but were cast into the Twilight Realm as a punishment, where they later evolved into the Twili people.
